New reports claim that Leonardo DiCaprio, fresh from his most recent breakup, is currently “getting to know” supermodel Gigi Hadid. This wouldn’t be that interesting, if it weren’t for the fact that this would make Hadid, at 27, the first woman above the age of 25 to be romantically linked to DiCaprio.
Unnamed sources cited in both People and Us Weekly have reported that DiCaprio has been pursuing Hadid; and while they are not actually together, they are feeling things out. “They are getting to know each other,” one source told People, while another confirmed, “Leo is definitely pursuing Gigi.” Meanwhile, Us Weekly is reporting that multiple eyewitnesses spotted the two of them partying together in New York City at a Fashion Week afterparty. Very intriguing!
Now, if I may put on my tinfoil hat for a moment, something seems fishy to me here. For one, DiCaprio only broke up with his last girlfriend, Camila Marrone, a few weeks ago, just a few months after her 25th birthday. DiCaprio’s preferred romantic type—white models between the ages of 18 and 25—has been a source of headlines, jokes, and even protest signs for years now. His split with Marrone was no different, sparking days of online quips and even its own meme format.
Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio wanted it out there that he was dating a 27-year-old to stop all of the jokes? I mean, why else would his ex take it upon herself to pen an op-ed defending him as a boyfriend all of a sudden? I’m just saying: I won’t believe it until I see the two of them paddleboarding together off the Amalfi coast in blurry paparazzi shots.
